What you'll make
A complete set of interlocking laser-cut puzzle pieces, with optional photo engraving on the assembled face.
Step 1 — Set puzzle dimensions
Enter the overall width and height in mm. For a 30-piece puzzle, 200 × 150 mm is comfortable for adults.
Step 2 — Choose piece count
Select the number of pieces. The tool divides the puzzle into a grid and generates interlocking tabs and blanks on each shared edge.
Step 3 — Select tab style
Choose: Classic Rounded, Puzzle-Classic, or Geometric (square tabs). Rounder tabs are more forgiving with kerf offsets.
Step 4 — Set kerf offset
Enter your laser kerf. The tool offsets each tab and blank so pieces fit together with a satisfying click.
Step 5 — Add a photo (optional)
Upload a photo to engrave on the puzzle face. The tool aligns the engraving to the cut file so the image appears correctly when assembled.
Step 6 — Export and cut
Export puzzle cuts as SVG. Cut the pieces first, then engrave the photo in a second pass on the assembled blank.
Pro tips
Tip 1: 3 mm birch plywood gives the best balance of strength and clean cuts for puzzles.
Tip 2: For kids' puzzles, use 5–6 mm MDF for chunkier pieces that are easier to handle.
