What you'll make
A personalised laser-cut sign with multi-layer text, icons, and a custom outer cut shape — ready for engraving and cutting in LightBurn.
Step 1 — Set sign dimensions
Enter width and height in mm. The sign boundary defines both the outer cut shape and the engraving canvas.
Step 2 — Choose sign shape
Select a shape for the outer cut: rectangle with rounded corners, oval, arch, cloud, or a custom path.
Step 3 — Add text layers
Add one or more text elements. Set font, size, alignment, and position for each. Script fonts work great for names; bold sans-serif works well for titles.
Step 4 — Add icons or silhouettes
Browse the icon library (80+ icons) or use the AI Silhouette generator to create a custom shape from a text description.
Step 5 — Set engraving depth style
Choose between outline-only engraving (fast) or filled engraving (deeper, bolder). Filled engraving removes more material and looks more premium.
Step 6 — Export with layers
Export SVG with separate engraving and cut layers. In LightBurn, run the engraving pass first, then cut the outline.
Pro tips
Tip 1: For dark wood like walnut, use a lower power/higher speed engrave setting — the contrast is naturally high.
Tip 2: The AI Silhouette is great for specific animals or objects not in the icon library.
