What you'll make
A defensible selling price for any laser-cut product, backed by a full cost breakdown — material, machine time, electricity, labour, platform fees, and target margin.
Step 1 — Enter material cost
Input the price of the full sheet and its dimensions. The tool calculates material cost per product based on the product footprint. Add 15–20% for wastage.
Step 2 — Set machine time and electricity rate
Enter the total job time in minutes and your electricity cost per kWh. The tool multiplies machine wattage × time × rate for an electricity cost per piece.
Step 3 — Add labour time
Enter time spent per product: setup, finishing, packaging. Set your hourly rate. For hobby makers, use a minimum of £10–15/hr to ensure the business is viable.
Step 4 — Add platform fees and packaging
Enter Etsy/eBay fee percentage (typically 6.5–15%), packaging cost per item, and shipping cost if included in the price.
Step 5 — Set target profit margin
Enter your desired margin (e.g. 40%). The tool calculates the minimum selling price that achieves this margin after all costs.
Step 6 — Review the breakdown and set your price
Review the full cost breakdown. The tool shows minimum price, recommended price, and competitor market range.
Pro tips
Tip 1: Most new laser makers underprice by 40–60%. Run every product through the calculator before listing.
Tip 2: Personalisation justifies a 30–50% price premium over standard products.
